Damian Barr discusses You Will Be Safe Here
In conversation with Alexander Chee
Damian Barr's London-based Literary Salon has been going for more than ten years with hundreds of prominent guests and has partnered with the Man Booker & Windham-Campbell Prizes. Barr's own debut novel, You Will Be Safe Here, explores legacies of abuse, redemption, and the strength of the human spirit—from the Boer Wars in South Africa to brutal wilderness camps for teenage boys. Inspired by real events, the novel uncovers a hidden colonial history, reveals a dark contemporary secret, and explores the legacy of violence and our will to survive. Barr reads and discusses his work with Alexander Chee, author of Queen of the Night and How To Write An Autobiographical Novel.
